2010 Guangzhou Asian Games: Let The Games Begin....

The Asian Games, officially known as Asiad, is a multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over the Asia. The Games were regulated by the Asian Games Federation (AGF) from the first Games in New Delhi, India until the 1982 Games. Since the 1982 they have been organised by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), after the break up of the Asian Games Federation.[1] The Games are recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and are described as the second largest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games.

2010 Asian Games Mascot (Le Yang Yang and his friends)

The 2010 Asian Games, also known as the XVI Asiad, are scheduled to take place in Guangzhou, China from November 12 to November 27, 2010. Guangzhou is the second city in China to host the Games after Beijing in 1990. A total of 476 events in 42 sports will be contested by athletes, making it the largest event in history of the Games. It will also be the last one to have presented such big events, as the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) have enforced new hosting rules for future games, beginning with the 2014 Games.

Guangzhou was awarded the right on July 1, 2004, as the sole bidding city. This came after the withdrawal of several cities, from Amman, Kuala Lumpur and Seoul. The games will also be co-hosted by Dongguan, Foshan and Shanwei, the three neighbouring cities.

Compared to the 28 events in the Olympic Games, the 2010 Asian Games will feature 42 events throughout the 16 days of the competition, with added disciplines in some events. Football will be held before the opening ceremony, 28 and 5 gold medalists will emerge during the opening day and final day respectively, while a total of 48 gold medalists will be awarded on November 25, 2010, the most in single day.[34] Twenty20 cricket is among the debutant sports,[35] with dancesport, dragon boat, weiqi and roller sport added as unique to the Games. Bodybuilding was dropped due to judging controversy in the 2006 Games.

All 45 members of Olympic Council of Asia participating in the Games. All National Olympic Committees shall submitted their entry before September 30, 2010. Organisers allow each NOC to submit additional entry and injury replacement after the deadline. After the final registration deadline, some 9,704 athletes took part in the Games, increase by 184 athletes from previous Asian Games in Doha and some 4,750 team officials will along the journey.[38] According to the Games' official webiste, Kuwaiti athletes are participated the Games under the Olympic flag, this is because Kuwait Olympic Committee was suspended due to political interference since January 2010.

However, the man who was at the center of the hand-wrap controversy, Margarito’s former trainer Javier Capetillo, has not been heard from since a hearing at which California officials revoked Margarito's license in February of last year.

Capetillo held his tongue for more than a year and half as he was vilified in the media and beyond. But the 60-year-old trainer broke his silence on Tuesday. Milwaukee Bucks center Andrew Bogut has a broken hand, dislocated elbow and sprained wrist that will keep him out indefinitely after a hard fall in Saturday night's victory over the Phoenix Suns.

The team said Sunday it does not know when he will return, but the injuries leave his availability for a potential playoff run in doubt. He has been released from the hospital.

With Milwaukee leading late in the second quarter, Bogut took a long outlet pass in for a fast break slam dunk. He hung on the rim afterward, was touched in the back by the Suns' Amare Stoudemire and crashed to the court. He wrenched his right elbow in ugly fashion trying to brace his fall.

Bogut appeared to be in serious pain, briefly writhing on the floor before being helped to his feet by the team's medical staff. Hunched over and clutching his arm, he ran down the tunnel toward the locker room.

The samurai used various weapons, but the katana is the weapon that has come to be synonymous with samurai, metaphorically speaking. sQuba is a Rinspeed concept car it was built around the Lotus Elise, it is the world’s first amphibian car.

sQuba is the first real submersible car and its a zero-emission all electric vehicle. It got three electric motors one for to drive on land and two motors to drive underwater. It can be submerged to a depth of 10 metres (33 ft), the car’s top land speed is 120 km/h (75 mph). On the surface of water, the top speed is 6 km/h (3.2 kn; 3.7 mph) and underwater it is 3 km/h (1.6 kn; 1.9 mph). According to Rinspeed, sQuba is made open cockpit to allow the occupants to escape easily in case of emergency.

The price of on one sQuba is pegged at $172,000.

I should buy one in case Ondoy happens again. Or maybe Manny should try to persuade the makers of this car to build a bus and donate it to his constituents, he'll surely win in the elections.

2010 Winter Paralympics - Vancouver Canada

The 2010 Winter Paralympics, officially known as the X Paralympic Winter Games, are being held in Vancouver and Whistler, British Columbia, Canada from March 12 to March 21, 2010. The Opening Ceremony took place in BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, British Columbia.

There are only 5 sports on this Olympics program:

1.) Alpine skiing

Paralympic alpine skiing is an adaptation of alpine skiing for athletes with a disability. Disabled ski racers compete in three different medal categories: standing, sitting, and visually impaired. Each of these groups is divided into three to seven classes, some of which are further subdivided into two or three sub-classes. Within each of the three major categories, times are compared by means of a "factor system" that attempts to put athletes with different disabilities on a level playing field with one another by multiplying the time of each racer in a given class or sub-class by a fixed number between zero and one called a factor. The result, known as "adjusted time," is the time that commonly appears on result lists for disabled ski races.

2.) Biathlon

Paralympic biathlon is an adaptation of biathlon for athletes with a disability. Paralympic biathlon is one of two Nordic skiing disciplines in the Winter Paralympic Games. It is governed by the International Paralympic Committee. Paralympic biathlon includes standing events, sitting events (for wheelchair users), and events for visually impaired athletes. Visually impaired athletes use a rifle that use sound to indicate to the athlete how accurate their aim is, and shoots a laser beam at the target.

3.) Cross-country skiing

Paralympic cross-county skiing is an adaptation of cross-country skiing for athletes with a disability. Paralympic cross-country skiing is one of two Nordic skiing disciplines in the Winter Paralympic Games. It is governed by the International Paralympic Committee. Paralympic cross-country skiing includes standing events, sitting events (for wheelchair users), and events for visually impaired athletes.
The Paralympics cross country skiing is made for skiers with disabilities. It is an adaptation of cross country skiing, only it allows a wide variety of people who have mutations, amputations, blindness, or any other physical disability, to continue their sport. This sport appeared at the 1976 Winter Games in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, for the first time. Depending on the competitors’ functional disability, an athlete has the option of using a sit-ski. This is a chair with a pair of skis equipped to the bottom of it. Many Sit-skiers use this because they have no use of their legs. This is called paraplegic. To ensure the safety of people with blindness, they follow a guide through the whole race. Standing skiers are skiers with a locomotive disability and who are able to use the same equipment as able-bodied skiers.

4.) Wheelchair Curling

Wheelchair curling is an adaptation of curling for athletes with a disability. Wheelchair curling is governed by the World Curling Federation, and is one of the sports in the Winter Paralympic Games. Wheelchair curling is played with the same rocks and on the same ice as regular curling, though the rocks are thrown from a stationary wheelchair and there is no sweeping. Rocks may be thrown by hand while leaning over the side of the wheelchair, or pushed by a delivery stick. This is a pole with a bracket that fits over the rock handle, allowing the rock to be pushed while applying correct rotation.

5.) Sledge Hockey

Sledge hockey is a sport that was designed to allow participants who have a physical disability to play the game of ice hockey. Ice sledge hockey (also known as sled hockey in the United States) was invented in the early 1960s in Stockholm, Sweden at a rehabilitation center. It is currently one of the most popular sports in the Paralympic Games. International ice sledge hockey became an official event in 1994 for the beginning of the Paralympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway, with Sweden claiming the first gold medal for ice sledge hockey competition. In 1998 the following Paralympic Games in Nagano, Japan, Norway won the gold medal as Canada and Sweden took the silver and bronze respectively. For the 2002 Paralympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, the gold medal belonged to the United States with Norway and Sweden finishing second and third. The 2006 Paralympic Games in Torino, Italy saw the gold medal go to Canada, silver to Norway and bronze to the United States. In Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, it will be the first time when the tournament is going to be disputed by mixed teams; teams are permitted to have female athletes on their rosters, previously having been only competed by men.

I'm really into Photography nowadays... but I still don't have my camera yet, saving some money so I can get one... for now I'm appreciating these photos I found on the net. Its what they call High Speed Photography. From what I read, HPS may refer to either or both of the following meanings. The first is that the photograph itself may be taken in a way as to appear to freeze the motion, especially to reduce motion blur. The second is that a series of photographs may be taken at a high sampling frequency or frame rate. The first requires a sensor with good sensitivity and either a very good shuttering system or a very fast strobe light. The second requires some means of capturing successive frames, either with a mechanical device or by moving data off electronic sensors very quickly.

‘Blighted’ is the title of a first novel by someone who I never suspected was a budding novelist, feisty lawyer and former Solicitor General Frank Chavez. It was launched yesterday at the former Nielsen Tower building on Makati Avenue, before Makati’s glitterati crowd, among whom may count the living inspiration of some of the villains in his novel.

‘Blighted’ is a searing social commentary on the state of the nation as it lurches from one moral crisis to another, tragically without any resolution, and set amid the events of the last 30 years, up to and including the death of former President Cory Aquino in August 2009.

The villains are recognizable enough, including a fat and powerful Godfather-figure named Jabba, though the events are fiction. And the three protagonists are meant to represent a cross section of Filipino society in the 21st century: Pabs, a spoiled brat from a fictive South Greenwich gated subdivision; Leandro, a middle-class intellectual polit-sci student at UP Diliman; and Rico, a hard-hat construction worker employed by Pabs’ father’s company, trying to make ends meet.

The three are thrown together in a police jail after they were rounded up following a rowdy street demonstration. They become good friends and meet several times after they are released from jail. This is the story of that three-cornered relationship, and through it, the story of Filipino society in metastatic decay—the title of one of its chapters—asit spirals in a moral vacuum.

Not being a literary person, I am not competent to comment on the novel’s literary merits: characterization, dramatic tension, dialog, atmospherics, narrative style.

I can only mention that it has a Rizalian resonance of Elias and Ibarra discussing the ills of contemporary society, but the setting is not 1887, but the still cancer-ridden Philippines of 2009.

The denouement comes in a murder in which the three are implicated, justly or unjustly. And the trial that follows reveals the endemic corruption that underlies the Philippine justice system and all its warts. As a trial lawyer, Chavez knows the ins and outs, the maneuvers and the backroom deals, that are the hallmarks of the system, from the local police to the Supreme Court.

The three protagonists and their lawyers navigate through this legal minefield, and here Chavez’ novel acquires the patina of a John Grisham legal thriller. The ending seems foreordained by the story of mega-corruption that Chavez weaves.

As a tribute to the fight of the year this coming November 14, 2009. I'm gonna talk about the sport that they call the Sweet Science - Boxing... so here goes good luck to me!

He's an ambidextrous fighter. He can get knocked out with either hand.
